It's everywhere, and it has become a commodity. Public libraries, coffee shops, hotels, airports, business offices, the gym, etc., all have public Wi-Fi!  But why is it so bad? It's a good thing, right? Can't I just get on social media real quick? The truth is...  Many public places don't require a password to use their Wi-Fi.

These businesses advertise their free Wi-Fi as "easy to connect" or "hassle-free." But hackers can join the network too and are KNOWN for seeing/tracking/stealing your session data, personal information, credentials, and more. You can even click on the wrong website, enter your information and run the risk of identity theft.

As tempting as it may just connect and be "hassle-free" at your local coffee shop, your personal information is much more valuable than the 5-10 minutes you spent on public Wi-Fi. It is simply not worth the risk.

If you must get on, please make sure that at least the websites you connect to have the "https://www." format..... OR the little padlock symbol in the address bar. That is a sure way to know if a website is safe. Besides... I can assure you connecting to the internet can wait until you're safe at home or at school!!
